MULTAN: Pakistan and South Africa recorded convincing victories over Sri Lanka and Afgha­nistan, respectively in the Blind Cricket World Cup in Multan on Friday.

Pakistan’s win over Sri Lanka at the Multan Cricket Stadium is the hosts’ fourth consecutive victory in the tournament.

After electing to bat first, the tourists totalled 122 for the loss of seven wickets in the stipulated 20 overs with major contributions from Thushara (28 off 37 balls) and Soranga (26 off 29). Babar Ali and Naimatullah grabbed two wickets each for six and 27 runs, respectively.

Pakistan reached the target in just 6.2 overs while losing one wicket, thanks to a blazing 71 not out off 29 balls by Naimatullah.

In the day’s second match played between South Africa and Afgha­nistan at the DHA Cricket Ground where Afghan­istan amassed 171-7 after electing to bat first.

Afghanistan captain Abaseen struck 63 off 52 balls while Daran contributed 30 off 22.

In reply, South Africa overhauled the total in 11.4 overs for the loss of one wicket to comfortably win the game by virtue of major contributions from Lesedi Lesufi (75 off 44) and Mathapo (60 runs off 33).

Meanwhile, Nepal rec­eived a walkover due to India’s absence while Sri Lanka will get more points on Saturday due to the same reason.

Pakistan next face Afghanistan and South Africa take on Bang­la­desh on Saturday.
