KARACHI: Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi on Wednesday said that the government would take all-out measures to restore peace in Sindh, particularly Karachi.

Mr Naqvi said this during a visit to the headquarters of Pakistan Rangers, Sindh in Karachi, where he held a meeting with Director General of Rangers Major General Muhammad Shamraiz.

He was given a detailed briefing on the Rangers’ operational preparedness, the eastern borders, operations against dacoits in the Katcha (riverine) areas, prevention of smuggling and water theft and the overall law and order situation in Karachi.

The interior minister appreciated the role of the paramilitary force and said that every possible step would be taken to restore peace in Sindh, particularly Karachi, said a Rangers spokesperson in a statement.

Upgrade of Niaz Stadium

The minister also held separate meetings with Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori and Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah.

They discussed matters of mutual interest, including the security situation and the promotion of cricket in the province.

The chief minister’s discussion particularly focussed on promoting cricket in the province and upgrading Niaz Stadium in Hyderabad to meet international standards, enabling it to host international cricket matches in the future.

According to a press statement issued by the CM House, both leaders agreed on the necessity of implementing measures to equip the stadium with modern facilities.

Mr Shah emphasised that talented young cricketers, including those from rural areas, should be given opportunities to excel.

At the Governor House, Mr Tessori lauded the role of law enforcement agencies in maintaining peace and security, stating that their efforts were commendable.

He further emphasised that the renovation of National Bank Stadium would significantly contribute to the promotion of cricket.

The interior minister praised the ongoing initiatives under the governor’s leadership, describing them as exemplary.
